"Sure," Pike answers, happy for the reprieve of sorts. He needs out for a few minutes. He calls for Jim just as he pulls out that salve and begins applying it to the boy's reddened skin. By the time Jim arrives, Pike is done and waiting for his boy, sitting on the bed and rubbing James' back.
